The weekend of 3rd and 4th September saw Bishopsteignton Community Centre packed with people who had gone along to see the fantastic array of exhibits at this year’s Bishopsteignton Village Show.
Show Chairman, Roy Halsey, said “ It has been a really great weekend. Our Village Show includes all the different classes you’d expect including fruit, flowers, vegetables, domestic, craft, children’s, art and photography. However, this year in particular we were swamped with entries in the floral classes and our Community Centre looked an absolute picture. It never ceases to amaze me when I see the quality of flowers and produce brought along by the exhibitors.”
He added “The weather held out for us and, as well as all our usual catering, we sold out of ice-creams – who said summer was over?” The Show is in its 16th year and has a website of its own, www.bishopsvillageshow.co.uk which not only lists all the winners of this year’s show but now has an archive of results and photographs from 2005 onwards.
The Society Class was won by Bishopsteignton Women’s Institute and other winners included: Flowers Division (sponsored by James Mason Tucker Solicitors) was won by Mrs Jean Knapman. Fruit and Vegetables Division (sponsored by Bishopsteignton Pre-School Playgroup and CRC Garden Maintenance) was won by Mr Roy Halsey. Floral Art Division (sponsored by Cockhaven Manor) was won by Mrs Nina Down. Domestic Division (sponsored by Addicott Electrics) was won by Mrs Charlotte Lovelock. Handicraft Division (sponsored by Bishopsteignton Surgery) was won by Mrs Janet Pepperell.
Two other notable awards, very special to the local community, are the Geoff Smirthwaite Memorial Certificate for Fruit which was won by Mr Roy Halsey and the Les Martin Memorial Certificate for Fuchsias which was won by Mr Reg Pepperell.
Mr Halsey said “The Bishopsteignton Village Show is a great example of a community event and we are lucky to have such a wonderful facility as our recently refurbished Community Centre in which to stage it. Plus we are also incredibly grateful to the local businesses who support us in terms of sponsoring the various classes as well as providing us with some fantastic raffle prizes for our Grand Draw. All of this helps us run a really great Show which is then enjoyed by the local community.”
