Sky-high plans for Babbacombe Armed Forces Day

Babbacombe Downs will be the centrepiece of the 2012 Torquay Armed Forces Day on Saturday 23 June.

After the success of recent years, this beautiful cliff-top location has once again been chosen as the setting for a very special day. Part of the 2012 Babbacombe Festival, this is a real family affair. A full programme of activities is planned with all sorts of stalls and activities on offer from 10am. Torbay Brass Band will be entertaining the crowds throughout the day and the Veterans’ Parade will start at 1pm in the Model Village Car Park and finish along Babbacombe Downs Road. This year the Veterans will be accompanied by the wonderful Lympstone Brass Band.

Public support for this event last year was fantastic and organisers are hoping to see plenty of people lining the street to honour and celebrate the work of the UK Armed Forces, both past and present.

Conway Hoare, Torbay Council’s Events Officer, said “We are so pleased to be holding this event in Babbacombe once again. Last year’s event was enjoyed by thousands and we’re expecting similar crowds to turn out this year.”

The finale of the day will be an air show starting at 3pm. Conway added “I’m particularly looking forward to the air show. We’ve got some great visiting aircraft including the Twister Air Duo, an RAF Hawk and a Battle of Britain Hurricane to name but a few. It should be quite a spectacular sight seeing them flying across the Downs and out into the bay. We’ll have speakers across Babbacombe Downs to transmit the air show commentary so that everyone knows what’s going on.”
