Why not be one of the first people to experience the brand new Babbacombe Cliff Railway Visitor Centre on Oddicombe Beach?
The centre will be formally opened on Saturday 7 April at 11am and everyone is welcome. The new Visitor Centre, which is free to visit, will house all sorts of information about the railway. There’s a working model, some interesting bits and pieces to look at, some great pictures showing how the railway has changed over the years as well as a small shop selling cliff railway souvenirs. John Ayres, Babbacombe Cliff Railway Community Interest Company Chairman, says “We are delighted to finally be able to open the new Visitor Centre. We expect it to be very popular with locals and holidaymakers and it will give people a chance to find out a bit more about the Cliff Railway, its history and how it works.”
As well as the official opening of the Visitor Centre, from 10am to 3.30pm there will be an Easter Egg Trail. To enter, children ride on the Cliff Railway, pick up a trail to complete and hand it in to the Top Station – there’s a free egg for every child who hands back their trail (while stocks last). A Giant Tombola will run all day, a live Jazz Band will be entertaining the crowds from 1pm until 3pm and at 2pm it’s the Easter Bonnet Parade, with all entries welcome. Simply decorate a hat and come along to the beach that day. The competition is very kindly being judged by Paulette of Mrs B’s Bonnets Special Occasion Hat Hire. These events are being run by the Friends of Babbacombe Cliff Railway.
The entertainment starts at 10am so get along to the Cliff Railway, board a carriage down to the beach and enjoy a day out away from the bank holiday traffic.
