A fantastic charity football match will be taking place at Plainmoor Football Ground on Saturday 10 May, kicking off at midday. The match is being organised by Adam and Michelle Carpenter and is one of a series of matches that they’ve organised in recent years as part of the Gail Bremridge Memorial Cup in memory of Adam’s aunt who sadly passed away in 2009.
This year’s match is to raise money for local charity, the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN). The THHN gives free holidays to families who have seriously ill and bereaved children, recently bereaved families, couples who have lost a child and to families who have a terminally ill parent, and Adam was keen for this year’s event to support the THHN’s work.
The match itself is between a team from the Sportsman’s Arms and the Torquay Legends which includes Dean Edwards and Mark Loram among the names lined up to take part. Dean played for Torquay in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s scoring for the team in two different Wembley appearances. Mark made over 300 appearances for Torquay during the 1980’s and 1990’s scoring over 60 goals for the team.
Tickets for the match are just £3 each and are now on sale at the Sportsman’s Arms pub on Laburnum Street, the Bombay Express on Belgrave Road, Torre Trophies and Alberts Bar on Belgrave Road.
As well as the football there will be an auction and raffle, with music and entertainment from DJ Nick Barton, a face painter for the children and the bar will be open for refreshments throughout the event. Adam said “Doors will open at 10am and we’re really hoping that whole families will come along, join in the fun, watch some great football and help us raise some money for this wonderful charity which does such a great job of helping those who really need a break.” Adam and Michelle are also very grateful to the sponsors who have helped hugely with this event. They are Joe Clark of J.C Security, Lee and Jean of Torre Trophies, Jim and Lisa Lang of the Sportsmans Arms pub, Rehan Uddin of Bombay Express and Pro-Direct Soccer who have kindly donated some match balls!
Tickets will also be available on the door on the day.
