About Me

My name is Nicky Allen and my marketing experience ranges from organising huge, brand awareness advertising and direct response campaigns for national organisations to promoting independent businesses through press, radio, reciprocal promotions and social media.  I have also organised large outside events with hundreds of attendees.  Starting my Marketing career in London, I then lived in Wiltshire for many years, moving to Devon in 2005.

Shortly after arriving in Devon I quickly became ensconced in the vitally important, and thriving, Tourism Industry.  I have organised many events ranging from fun Christmas activities to five-day summer festivals.  I have also gained wide experience of the hospitality industry working for various bars and restaurants in the area offering marketing expertise, event and function management as well as assisting with recruitment and customer service.  I have created a Gallery Page showing a few of the things I have been involved with over the past decade or so.  Hard work but lots of fun making some great things happen with some lovely people.

As well as the excitement of the work outlined above, in 2011 I was asked to oversee the Marketing for Babbacombe Cliff Railway, a voluntary role which I thoroughly enjoyed until standing down in September 2019.  Spreading the word about such an important historic attraction was an honour and we had an incredible time promoting the railway and the fabulous Oddicombe Beach.  In 2019 we celebrated ten years of community ownership during which we have transported over one million passengers – quite the cause for celebration.  Telling the story of the past ten years has been an important job to do via events, advertising and a great double-page spread in Devon Life Magazine.

A more recent project has been the creation of some new social media pages celebrating all that’s great about South Devon.  Initially starting with Babbacombe Bay I have now branched out to feature other areas of South Devon as well.   To follow that journey on social media please go to Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and search for @SouthDevonStyle or click on the icons below.

Since starting my marketing career many years ago I’ve designed and written copy for all sorts of promotional materials both in print and on-line and I’ve organised PR activities at fairs, conferences, exhibitions and family days out.

I’ve set up and run a monthly Business Breakfast Club, I’ve worked on national charity gift catalogues, I’ve been responsible for huge direct marketing campaigns, I’ve run competitions and overseen the launch of a new local newspaper title.

I’ve worked with businesses, charities, schools, community groups, design agencies and individuals.

Prior to moving to Devon and setting up All the Right Notes I worked for a number of different organisations, including:

  • The BBC (London)
  • Cancer Research UK (London)
  • The British Polio Fellowship (London)
  • Wiltshire Times and Star newspapers (Trowbridge, Wiltshire)
  • Gazette and Herald newspapers (Devizes, Wiltshire)

Each of the roles has been quite different but each has required the same basic skill in different forms – communication.

Marketing, and successful business generally, is all about communicating – the right message to the right people at the right time.
