Bumper year for Bishopsteignton Village Show

The 18th annual Bishopsteignton Village Show took place on Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September and organisers saw Bishopsteignton Community Centre fuller than ever with all sorts of horticultural, culinary and artistic exhibits.

Show Chairman Roy Halsey said “It really has been a bumper year.  The wonderful summer weather has meant that there was some really great quality fruit, vegetables and flowers on display this year.  We’re also delighted to have welcomed lots of new exhibitors to the Show.  It’s always lovely to have new people want to take part and hopefully they will be back again next year.”

The Bishopsteignton Show is a traditional Village Show open to everyone who lives, works or is a member of a society within the village.  There are over 70 classes ranging from cookery, art and photography and special classes for the children to enter to the classic fruit, vegetables and floral classes.

Roy said “The Show really is an important part of the village calender and we’re very lucky to receive lots of sponsorship and support from local businesses.  All of our classes are sponsored and people are very generous giving us prizes for the grand raffle we have which is a vital fundraiser for the Show.  Sponsors from within the village this year include The Cockhaven Manor, Central Garage, the Ring of Bells, Bishopsteignton Surgery, Red Rock Brewery, Bishopsteignton Women’s Institute and Wyse Homes along with support from Luscombe Drinks, Tuckers Seeds, Otter Nurseries, Morrisons, Tibbs Greengrocers, House of Marbles, Austins, Addicott Electrics and Trago Mills.

This year the prizes were presented by Maggie Gorringe who has been a vital member of the Show Committee for many years .  2013 was Maggie’s last show as a committee member as she and her husband are leaving the area so Roy asked Maggie if she’d like to present the prizes and she was only too pleased to do so.

The Show also has its own website, www.bishopsvillageshow.co.uk, which features all the results from this and previous years along with photo galleries, news of fundraising events, as well as more on all of the sponsors.  Whilst the organising committee can now have a rest after all their hard work it won’t be long before they meet again to start planning next year’s Show.

Bishopsteignton Village Show 2013

The 2013 Bishopsteignton Village Show will be held, as always, in Bishopsteignton Community Centre on Saturday 7 September (2pm to 5pm) and Sunday 8 September (11am to 4pm).
The Community Centre will again be packed to the rafters with loads of fantastic exhibits in various classes including fruit and vegetables, flowers, art, photography, children’s, domestic, floral art and handicrafts.
Refreshments and cream teas will be served both days along with ploughman’s lunches on the Sunday. There will also be a selection of local craft and produce stands to browse.
Admission is just 50p for adults and free for children.

Festive Fun at the Gingerbread House Family Workshop

The Bishopsteignton Gingerbread House Family Workshop is the perfect way to get you and your friends and family in the mood for Christmas. After the success of last year’s event, another has been planned for Christmas 2012.

This great workshop is being held at Bishopsteignton Community Centre on Friday 14 December from 6pm to 9pm. Book a table (maximum 4 people per table including at least one adult) and take home a delightful gingerbread house.

Tables cost £17 each and that price includes the components for making one House as well as refreshments on the evening.

All you need to bring is your imagination, a selection of sweets to decorate your house and plenty of festive cheer.

Lori Reich, of Shute Fruit and Produce, will be leading the workshop and says “The Bishopsteignton Gingerbread House Workshop is being put on to raise money for the Community Centre. It should be a festive, family evening and people get to take home a lovely, traditional Christmas treat that they’ve made themselves – I’m really looking forward to it.”

A riot of colour at Bishopsteignton Village Show

The 17th annual Bishopsteignton Village Show took place on Saturday 1 September and Sunday 2 September and organisers saw Bishopsteignton Community Centre filled with a riot of floral colour, fantastic veg, art, crafts and some wonderful exhibits inspired by the Olympics and the Golden Jubilee.

Show Chairman Roy Halsey said “I’m delighted with the entries we had for this year’s show. It’s been a difficult year for gardeners but people rose to the challenge and we had a great show filled with lovely quality fruit and veg and flowers. In fact both the Flower judge, Phil Baker and the Fruit and Veg judge, Peter Morton, said that they thought this was one of the best shows they’d judged in the area this year. Of course the Show is not all about gardening. Yet again we had incredible cakes and chutneys entered into the competition along with beautiful handicrafts, paintings and photography. A number of the local children got involved too with some great entries in their classes.”

Roy added “Unusually for a Village Show, ours is run over 2 days and we find that we have lots of people visit on both days. With cream teas and Ploughman’s Lunches on offer, as well as some great stalls selling local produce, we need both days to accommodate everyone who wants to come and look around. For a number of years now we’ve also been lucky enough to be supported by various local businesses who sponsor some of the Divisions in the Show and donate wonderful prizes so that we can hold our Grand Raffle which is such an important fund-raiser for us.”

Something for Everyone at Bishopsteignton Village Show

The 2012 Bishopsteignton Village Show will take place on Saturday 1 September and Sunday 2 September in Bishopsteignton Community Centre and this year features various themes inspired by village events, the Olympics and, of course, the Golden Jubilee. Bishopsteignton Village Show has a great mix of classes to enter including fabulous flowers, fruit and veg, incredible floral art, handicrafts, cookery, jams and chutneys, photography and, of course, a range of classes for the children to enter

To exhibit at this year’s show costs just 20p per entry. Exhibitors must reside, work or be a member of a club in the Bishopsteignton/Ideford Parish and, with over 75 classes to choose from, there’s bound to be something to try your hand at. All the details can be found on the Show website at www.bishopsvillageshow.co.uk and locals are being encouraged to have a go. The committee welcomes all entries from eligible participants and people can enter just one class or lots of classes if they want. There’s prize money too, and trophies for those with the most points won in various sections.

The Village Show is open to the public to look around from 2pm until 5pm on the Saturday and 11am to 4pm on the Sunday. There are cream teas served both days and Ploughman’s Lunches on the Sunday. There are also a number of stalls featuring local produce, crafts and greetings cards. Show Chairman Roy Halsey said “We’re really looking forward to seeing the range of exhibits we get this year.
